In 2017, an elderly resident of Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, came to Shifa Eye Foundation (now Noor-e-Shifa Foundation) with severe visual impairment caused by cataracts. Due to his socio-economic condition, he could not afford medical treatment, leaving him dependent on others for even the simplest daily tasks. His loss of vision had not only taken away his independence but also affected his dignity and quality of life.
Through our Free Eye Care Program, the patient was identified as a deserving case during our outreach screening. He was provided with free-of-cost cataract surgery at our Haripur facility. The entire process — from diagnosis to surgery and post-operative care — was handled with compassion and professionalism by our dedicated medical team.
The surgery was successful, restoring his eyesight and giving him the gift of vision once again. With renewed sight, he regained mobility, independence, and hope. What once felt like a life of darkness was transformed into light, enabling him to reconnect with his community and live with dignity.
This case reflects the very essence of Noor-e-Shifa Foundation’s mission: “Transforming Communities, Enabling Futures.” By addressing preventable blindness, we not only restore vision but also empower individuals to live fuller, more productive lives. Such interventions directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 1: No Poverty.
